To investigate, we analyzed search interest data on visualization types, books, and tools, processing over 10,000 data points. The comparison revealed insights into current popularity among the 157 entities shown here as moons revolving around their respective planets.
Charts
- We cast a wide net looking for all recognized visualization types.
- Then, we compared them by search interest to find out which ones are more widely used.
The pie chart, for example, has long been criticized as over-used. Could it be the most popular chart? Fortunately for its critics, in this race pie chart comes in only fourth after bar chart, histogram and gantt chart.
